Pepper Kaleidoscope
Pepper Kaleidoscope
Mary Lou's Kaleidoscope series includes many images seen through that instrument. Some are simply the geometric image at the base of the kaleidoscope, but this one is from a series that takes its image from the painting itself. A kaleidoscope with no glass fragments, but with mirrors only, is directed at various segments of the painting and each kaleidoscope image placed within the completed picture. Pepper Kaleidoscope was inspired by the fresh garden peppers produced by Mary Lou's son John, an organic farmer. This painting was entered in the Members Show of the Missouri Watercolor Society Show, in December 2016. It won fourth place and First Honorable Mention. The judge said he was very surprised that the work was produced by someone 88 years old, as he found it vibrant, strong and of a very definite design.
