Mechanical Drawing
This exceptionally fine painting uses precise draftsmanship as a statement about the subject itself. In companion with Nuts, Bolts and Gears, it was painted for Missouri University of Science and Technology, using the iconic compasses and drafting tools of engineers. The painting was drawn using the drafting compasses in the piece for all the geometric circles and designs of the painting. And, the drafting instruments themselves are a part of a set that belonged to Mary Lou's father, who was a carpenter. They were handed down to her son to use in college drafting classes. The painting's colors are muted and monochromatic in shades of grays and blues, the colors of metal instruments. This painting is one of the artist's favorites.
