Cornflowers in Flow-Blue Jar
Cornflowers in Flow-Blue Jar
Cornflowers are what our family has always called this flower and it is one that we have kept in our gardens. The blues are what make this one of the most popular of Mary Lou's paintings. The nostalgia of the old fashioned flowers are emphasized by the antique vase of flow-blue, a term applied to transfer ware pottery of the 19th century that was allowed to over run its outlines. The flowers themselves seem to run together in this study in blue, even though they are painted with exquisite detail.
