About the Artist
Mary Lou Corn has been painting professionally for the past forty-five years with watercolor. A native born Missourian, she lives and works in a naturally beautiful environment, surrounded by woods and hills. Her home and studio are in St. James, Missouri and along with her sculpture garden are legendary for unusual beauty and craftsmanship.
Mary Lou majored in art at William Woods College, in Fulton, MO. She planned to study art beyond that experience, namely at the Art Institute of Chicago, but like many women of her generation she opted for marriage and family, and postponed her serious career. As her children grew older, her return to painting began, and since the 1960’s she has been honing her methods and style. She has studied with several noted American watercolorists such as Stephen Quiller and Nina Engle.
Her paintings are in the realist style, hand-drawn without the use of slide projectors, computers or digital enhancements. Her paintings show exquisite attention to difficult details, like complex reflections and intricate subject matter. Her vivid color is a trademark, as are her beautifully designed still-life works. She also paints landscapes of the Ozarks, of the Western National Parks, and the Pacific Coast. |
